How lucky I am that one of my favorite designers is also my neighbour?! I’m very happy to introduce Hilde Tempelman – the super talented designer behind the ATELIER TEMPEL. Amsterdams smallest department store! (what a great name is that!). Hilde is designing accessories, handcrafted bags, scarves, bijoux, paper goods, dolls, pillow covers an other home decorations- all hand-made by her! Hilde is re-using vintage fabrics to create bags and accessories. I love her work. It’s full with imagination, originality, sense of humor and with her amazing twist on everything she makes. A visit to the atelier/shop is a visit to a true magical place and a great opportunity to meet the wonderful Hilde in person For more exciting things to see in Amsterdam check this guide.

The best secret guide to Amsterdam De pijp

+ I’m regularly updating this guide. Adding new exciting places and address. If you want to be updated you can register to my mailing list on the right, thanks! After many requests to share tips about good places to visit in Amsterdam,….here it is: “The best secret guide to Amsterdam – De Pijp” or “Don’t forget to bring your umbrella!” When visiting other cities there is nothing I like doing more than following a local guide and discover the hidden treasures of a place. The kind of places that only locals knows about. All the places & shops mentioned in this guide are based on my personal recommendation only. I don’t have any benefits from sharing this information. I collected them because for me they make this place special. All photos are taken by me (unless mentioned otherwise). I also included Google maps for easy searching and localization. De Pijp/Museum Quarter is where I live for the last 10 years, the neighborhood that I love very much. You can find here museums, parks, shops, cafes, …

A beautiful winter day

Beautiful winter day. All white and soft. Sun was shining and the sky are amazing in this blue sky. We went to the Museumplein at the end of our street to find that he hates snow and the cold weather- but Loves water…She is loving every moments of white and cold around her. Warm choco drink, portion of poffertjes and back home…

A visit to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (less than 10 minutes walk from my nice) is reopened after almost 8 years (!) of renovations. Beautiful building, exciting exhibitions. In the ground floor I got completely excited from the exhibition and the display about Dutch design. In one of the rooms were lots of hidden articles in big drawers full of wonderful, inspiring objects – jewellery, toys, graphic, furniture, textile, … In the Second floor, contemporary art- again- great exhibitions. All together it was worth waiting for. Take your time there -its big! and one warning: stay away from the restaurant/cafe (over priced, bad service).

Raak Amsterdam 2012

Yesterday evening I went to a fashion show of “Raak Amsterdam” in the westergasfabriek in Amsterdam with (and thanks to) my dear friend Godelinde. And what a great time we had! lovely space, beautiful people all around and more beautiful people around. Nice music, cloth, colors- a real treat for a girly night out. Although it’s not my style, I enjoyed it very much. Sorry for very poor photos. I discovered that its very difficult to take a decent photo when the subject of the photo keeps moving…;-) * You will have no problem to recognize the photos that I’ve taken, the good ones are from here and here.

New works…:-)

My dearest all, In the past few weeks I was extremely busy with working on my new series of work. I showed this work and many other on the “Open ateliers” that took place in “De Pijp”  in the center of Amsterdam. This is the second time that I’m taking part. For one weekend all the artist in our area opened their atelier. After a few hundred people and two very intense days, I can tell you it was a wonderful and inspiring experience. All my works are hand made collages, printed and embroidered on canvas. The first work is bigger than the rest (100×80 cm). More photos will come soon…:-)

Win admiration in five simple steps

Win the admiration of your child classmate mothers in five simple steps: 1.  Make an appointment in the weekend with your child classmate. Better with more than one child (in ordered to maximize the admiration factor). 2.  Make sure that it’s going to be the cloudiest, stormy, rainy day of the week, and you are at stuck at home with a few six years old girls and a baby. 3.  After pulling hairs, sit and read all mails you never look at on regular days. 4. Find the  golden newsletter, you normally don’t look at: cooking workshop for children with super title: “Yakki vegetables: carrot” (Getverderrie Groente: de Wortel)  taking place in a children book shop (!) in your neighborhood. 5. After all been finished, sit at home and enjoy the admiration of the (lovely) mothers…;-) and this three little mouses Romi made for dinner …:-)
